US based Ghanaian Mining Consultant and Engineer has affirmed former President John Dramani Mahama’s comment that “Kyebi is the Galamsey Headquarters in Ghana”. In his view, the Ex-President’s statement cannot be challenged by any individual because that was the truth.

According to Dr Owusu, the current state of River Birim and the alarming rate of degraded lands in the Kyebi area are evidence to justify that the former President was right. He has buttressed his point with a current video of the polluted and silted River Birim around Kyebi in the Eastern Region, showing that illegal mining activities still persist in the area.

Responding to a publication attributing to the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, where the Chief described Mahama’s galamsey comment as unfair to describe Kyebi as the Headquarters of illegal mining, Dr Solomon Owusu alleged that there is no illegal miner from the area who has been arrested and jailed for engaging in the illegal activities as compared to their colleagues at other places in the country.

“Ghanaians should be bold and challenge Okyenhene to tell the public when he saw Operations Vanguard, Galamstop, Operations Halt I, Operations Halt II and Operations Calm Rivers Teams in Kyebi?”, the Mining Engineer stated.

He also insisted that Okyenhene is aware of all illegal mining activities on Akyem lands and emphasized that the traditional leader can lie and mislead Ghanaians on galamsey activities in Kyebi but River Birim and the degraded lands will expose him.

Dr Solomon Owusu mentioned emphatically that since the galamsey fight began in 2017, President Akufo Addo has warned the security agencies not to step Kyebi to make arrests because of political votes.
