Her father, Adekunle Ademoye, played a central role in her upbringing. In a 2018 interview with The Punch, she explained that he raised her as a single parent. She described a modest childhood, including a period when she lived with an aunt.

Although she was shy, she enjoyed entertaining people once she felt comfortable. Her father supported her ambition to become an actress and accompanied her to her first audition, an experience she has repeatedly recalled when discussing his contribution to her career.

Education

Bimbo attended St. Margaret’s Primary School in Ikorodu, Lagos, before proceeding to Mayflower Secondary School in Ikenne, Ogun State. She later studied Business Administration at Covenant University in Ota, Ogun State.

Her university degree was outside the performing arts, but her interest in acting remained strong. She eventually pursued that interest professionally through auditions and practical experience on film sets.

How Her Acting Career Started

Bimbo’s professional acting journey began in 2014, with the short film Where Talent Lies, directed by Eva George. It was an early opportunity for her to demonstrate her abilities and begin building a career in Nollywood.

Producer Uduak Isong-Oguamanam became an important mentor. Bimbo has credited Isong with helping her enter the industry and giving her opportunities to play characters beyond the roles filmmakers initially associated with her appearance. Their professional relationship helped her develop confidence and show a wider range of acting skills. Bimbo Ademoye

The beginning was not without difficulty. Bimbo explained that some filmmakers hesitated to give her major roles because she was not yet popular enough to attract audiences. She continued attending auditions and gradually built her experience.

Breakthrough and Rise to Fame

Bimbo identified Backup Wife as her breakthrough film. Her performance brought greater recognition and earned her a nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy at the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

She subsequently appeared in films including Sugar Rush, Looking for Baami and Dear Affy, expanding her visibility and showing that she could work across different stories and settings.

Two particularly important performances came in Breaded Life and Aníkúlápó. In Breaded Life, she played Todowede, a bread seller. She explained that she prepared through lessons and drew on her memories of traders she encountered while growing up. In Kunle Afolayan’s Aníkúlápó, she portrayed Arolake, a role that demonstrated her dramatic range and earned her a 2023 AMVCA nomination for Best Actress in a Drama.

Comedy and Online Content

Comedy is a major part of Bimbo’s public appeal. Her facial expressions, delivery and character voices allow her to turn familiar situations into entertaining performances.

Her online character Iya Barakat, associated with Teropi Secxxion, extended that appeal beyond conventional films. She has explained that the character draws on people and mannerisms she observed in her Lagos neighbourhood.

However, Bimbo regards herself as an actress with a broad range. In interviews, she has expressed an interest in challenging dramatic roles that allow her to move audiences emotionally as well as make them laugh.

Her filmmaking work has also expanded onto YouTube through Bimbo Ademoye TV, with productions including Ruse, Last Straw and Fame and Fury. This provides another way for audiences to watch her work outside cinema releases.
