I used to think making money online was mostly a tech person's game.
You know the type.
Laptop permanently open.
Three monitors.
Talking about APIs before breakfast.
Meanwhile, you're just there wondering if you can make your first ₦100,000 online without learning complicated tech stuff.
The good news?
You absolutely can.
The internet doesn't only need software developers.
It needs writers.
Designers.
Video editors.
Virtual assistants.
Social media managers.
People who know how to sell.
People who can find information and turn it into something useful.
People who can help businesses get customers.
That's the part I think we sometimes miss when we hear “make money online.”
We imagine someone building an app in a dark room.
But a small business owner may simply need someone to manage their Instagram page.
A restaurant may need better photos and content.
A coach may need someone to turn their knowledge into an online course.
A business may need help collecting leads or sending emails.
None of those jobs require you to become a tech bro overnight.
They require you to solve a problem someone is willing to pay you to solve.
This is where I'd start if I were beginning from scratch.
I'd pick one skill.
Not seven.
Not “AI, coding, dropshipping, forex, crypto and YouTube” all at once.
One.
Then I'd spend the next few weeks getting genuinely useful at it.
If I chose writing, I'd practise writing.
If I chose social media management, I'd learn how businesses actually use social platforms to attract customers.
If I chose email marketing, I'd learn how to write emails people actually open and act on.
Then I'd create a few examples of my work.
You don't need to wait until someone gives you permission to build a portfolio.
Create your own.
And once you're good enough to help someone, start looking for people who need that help.
That's where the internet becomes interesting.
Your potential clients don't have to live in your neighbourhood.
They could be in Lagos, London, Accra or New York.
You can be sitting in your room with your phone while working on something for a business thousands of kilometres away.
And technology is making the barrier even lower.
For example, someone interested in affiliate marketing doesn't necessarily need to manufacture a product. Someone interested in lead generation doesn't need to own the business they're generating customers for.
Tools like Auxi Sherpa's Lead Generation service fit right into that wider digital work ecosystem, especially for anyone still learning how businesses actually attract and convert customers in the first place. The point isn't to chase every shiny online opportunity.
It's to find something useful you can learn, practise and eventually sell.
Because honestly, I don't think the biggest question anymore is:
“Am I technical enough to make money online?”
I'd ask:
“What can I learn to do well enough that somebody will pay me for it?”
That's a much better place to start.
You don't need the expensive laptop.
You don't need a fancy office.
And you definitely don't need to start every sentence with “As a tech entrepreneur...”
Start with a skill.
Build proof.
Find a problem.
Solve it.
Then keep getting better.
That's how an internet connection starts looking less like entertainment and more like an opportunity.
