Today is the day. Zlatan Ibile and Davita Lamai hold their wedding celebration in Lagos, and the man who shouts for a living is finally standing still at an altar.
The couple announced the date in October with a short video on Instagram, captioned with nothing but "24 October 2026" and a ring. Their elder son, Shiloh, did the talking.
"When I think about love, I think about my mummy and daddy," the boy said. "They have shown me that family means laughing together, supporting each other and always feeling loved. My little brother and I are part of their love story."
The post also carried the words "Happy Ever After Begins Now", the names "Davita x Zlatan", and the hashtag #DTTheUnion. Friends and colleagues filled the comments, and the timeline has not been quiet since.
The road here was not straight, and the couple never pretended it was.
In January, a fan asked Zlatan on Snapchat how his wife was doing. He answered plainly that Davita was the mother of his children and not his wife yet. Nigerians argued about that sentence for a week.
By March, they had posted family photographs in matching rings, and Davita had taken his surname, Omoniyi, on her Instagram profile.
In July, Teni did what Teni does. On a trip to the wedding of music executive Soso Soberekon, she introduced Davita as Zlatan's wife and announced to the room that a wedding was coming. Davita stood up and invited the people there.
Somewhere in that stretch, the legal part was already done. Reports say the couple held a private civil ceremony, kept small and kept quiet, before the announcement. Photographs of it surfaced later through a decorator.
So today is not the beginning of the marriage. It is the part the country gets to see.
The love story itself started in London in 2019, on Zlatan's first trip there.
He has told it himself. He arrived not understanding how the banking system worked, linked up with a man who wanted to talk music, and the man arrived with Davita.
She helped him change hotels and sort his money. She drove him around for hours in her small car to the places he needed to be, and he said it reminded him of his university days, when somebody helped him find a room to squat in.
He asked to see her again. She said she would have to check with the person she came with. They came back to Lagos together.
Her side of it is the part people quote. He was too shy to ask for her number, so he sent someone else to get it. "People will not believe it," she said, laughing.
He has described her as the final piece in the story he believes God is writing for him. In an interview this month, he praised her for being hardworking since the day they met, and for never taking their quarrels to Instagram.
She said she does not need flowers or expensive gifts to feel loved. She understands him, she said, and that has been enough.
The pre-wedding shoot went the other way from all that quiet. The couple released a retro Yoruba set, styled by Emmanuel Goodnews Icon, and the pictures read like an old family album from a wealthier century.
The wedding itself has become a Lagos event. Aso ebi packages were reported at ₦300,000 for three yards and up to ₦1.2 million for ten, and Israel DMW has said he took the full one.
Davido has been filmed holding up wads of dollars he plans to spray. Cubana Chief Priest posted a video of Zlatan visiting a venue on Banana Island before the day.
Zlatan also found a way to make the wedding about other people. On 15 October he announced on X that he would give out five cows from his wedding gifts to Nigerians holding their own ceremonies in the coming weeks, weddings, naming ceremonies and burials, with conditions attached.
That is a very Zlatan thing to do, and it explains why the street claims him. He is loud, he is generous, and he has never pretended to be from anywhere other than where he is from.
Today, the boy from Ikorodu who borrowed a footballer's name stands beside the woman who once had to approve a second meeting.
