Urea is widely used in agriculture because it supplies nitrogen that helps crops grow. Reliable fertiliser production can support farmers, food production and businesses involved in the agricultural supply chain.

Why the Project Matters to Nigeria

The expansion could strengthen Nigeria’s role as a fertiliser producer and exporter. It also reflects expectations that demand for urea will remain important despite changes in global prices and supply.

The project will face market risks, including competition from other producers and changes in the cost of natural gas, a key input in fertiliser manufacturing. Its eventual impact will depend on construction, production costs and demand when the new line becomes operational.
