Chief Ikedi Godson Ohakim is a Nigerian politician who served as the Governor of Imo State from May 2007 to May 2011.

Background

Born in Okohia, Isiala Mbano, Imo State, Ohakim worked in business before entering politics. He won the 2007 governorship election on the platform of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) and later moved to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while in office.

Time in office

His administration launched the "Clean and Green" initiative to improve sanitation and beautify Owerri and other towns, and promoted infrastructure and road projects across the state. He sought re-election in 2011 but lost to Rochas Okorocha.

Bringing entertainers into government

Ohakim's government was also notable for appointing figures from the creative industry. Comedian and actor Okey Bakassi, who hails from Mbaise in Imo State, served as his Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment Affairs, an appointment that reflected growing recognition of entertainment as a serious economic sector.

After office

Since leaving office, Ohakim has remained active in Nigerian politics and public commentary, and he is still regarded as a significant voice in Imo State affairs.
