Colombia Drone Attack Kills Three Soldiers at Military Base

A Colombia drone attack killed three soldiers and seriously injured at least eight others at a military installation in Santa Rosa del Sur, in the southern Bolívar department, on Saturday, November 7, 2026, according to the Colombian Army. The attack involved unmanned aircraft carrying explosives, prompting an emergency response and further security operations in the area. (Source: Colombian Army)

President Abelardo de la Espriella condemned the attack and pledged that those responsible would be pursued. However, authorities had not publicly confirmed who carried out the strike.

Santa Rosa del Sur lies in a region affected by competition among armed organisations seeking territorial control and influence over activities including illegal mining and drug trafficking. Investigators will need to establish whether any of these groups was involved before responsibility can be assigned.

The attack adds to growing concerns about the use of explosive drones against security forces in Colombia. For families of the soldiers killed and injured, the immediate priority is mourning, medical care and accountability. For the country, the investigation will be an important test of its ability to protect military personnel while preventing further violence.

Authorities have urged members of the public to share information that could help prevent future attacks. The investigation remains ongoing, and the identity of those responsible has not been officially established.
