The statement came after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi questioned who was effectively in charge while Tinubu is in Paris and Vice President Kashim Shettima is in the United States for the United Nations General Assembly.

According to the report, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, said the President’s constitutional powers do not depend on his physical location. He cited Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution as the basis for the President’s authority to direct the affairs of the country and perform his responsibilities as Commander-in-Chief.

Bwala said the President can “order, direct, delegate and or administer” the affairs of Nigeria from anywhere in the world.

For the average Nigerian, however, the bigger issue is not simply where the President is sitting. It is whether government decisions continue to reach the people who depend on them.

A trader waiting for an economic policy, a business owner watching exchange rates, a company planning investments or a family dealing with rising costs may care less about the President’s physical location and more about whether government remains responsive and effective.
