Stefon Diggs was born on November 29, 1993, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He grew up in a football-loving family and developed into one of the most highly regarded young players in the state.
His father, Aron Diggs, died while Stefon was a teenager. Diggs has publicly discussed the responsibility he felt toward his younger brothers after that loss. His mother, Stephanie Diggs, played a central role in raising the family and supporting his ambitions.

One of his younger brothers, Trevon Diggs, also reached the NFL, becoming a cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys. Their careers placed the brothers on opposite sides of the passing game, with Stefon catching passes and Trevon defending them.
Diggs attended Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Maryland. His performances there attracted national recruiting attention and offers from major college football programs.
Choosing Maryland
Despite opportunities to leave the state, Diggs chose the University of Maryland. His decision gave the local program a prominent recruit and allowed him to continue playing close to home.
He played for Maryland from 2012 through 2014, contributing as both a receiver and a return specialist. His acceleration, ability to change direction and instinct for finding space made him a threat with the ball in his hands.
Injuries interrupted parts of his college career, but his talent remained clear. He produced significant receiving performances while showing the versatility that would later help him succeed against professional defenses.
Diggs entered the 2015 NFL Draft after his junior season. Although he had been a celebrated high school recruit, he was not among the first receivers selected.
Breakthrough with the Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings selected Diggs in the fifth round of the 2015 draft. He quickly outperformed the expectations associated with that draft position and earned a substantial role in the offense.
Alongside fellow receiver Adam Thielen, Diggs helped give Minnesota a productive passing attack. His game developed beyond natural athletic ability, with careful footwork and increasingly refined routes becoming defining strengths.
His most famous Vikings moment came during the playoffs following the 2017 season. Against the New Orleans Saints, he caught a pass from quarterback Case Keenum and turned it into a 61-yard touchdown as time expired.
The play became known as the Minneapolis Miracle. It sent Minnesota to the NFC Championship Game and secured Diggs a lasting place in NFL playoff history.
Buffalo and later career
Diggs was traded to the Buffalo Bills in 2020. His partnership with quarterback Josh Allen immediately became one of the league's most productive combinations.
In his first Buffalo season, he led the NFL with 127 receptions and 1,535 receiving yards. He earned first-team All-Pro recognition and helped the Bills reach the AFC Championship Game.
He recorded more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of his four seasons with Buffalo and earned four consecutive Pro Bowl selections. His consistency made him a central figure in the team's offense.
Buffalo traded Diggs to the Houston Texans in 2024. A knee injury ended his season early. He joined the New England Patriots in 2025, adding another chapter to a career built across several NFL franchises.

Playing style and life beyond football
Diggs is known for disguising his routes, creating separation and adjusting to difficult throws. His success illustrates how technical skill can turn a fifth-round selection into an elite receiver.
Away from football, he has attracted attention for his fashion interests and personal style. Family has remained an important part of his public story, alongside the competitive drive that shaped his rise.
