Donald Trump was elected to a second term as president of the United States, defeating Vice-President Kamala Harris and becoming the first person since Grover Cleveland to win non-consecutive terms.
He carried all seven battleground states and won the national popular vote, with exit polling showing gains among Hispanic and younger voters compared with 2020. Republicans also took control of the Senate.
The campaign had been reshaped by President Joe Biden's withdrawal in July after a poor debate performance, and by two assassination attempts on Mr Trump during the summer.
